A Touch of Blue

The homeowners’ of this kitchen project were referred to Creative Kitchen Designs, Inc. by their fellow friends and past clients of ours. Naturally, I was more than delighted to work on their project when they first contacted our company. The client stated she had seen several examples of our design work and was eager to get her project started.

During the initial visit and consultation of the jobsite, my client had an idea of what she wanted for her future kitchen. She knew that the cedar ceiling was planned to remain in the house, but she wanted to remove part of a wall and open the kitchen up more to the living room so that both areas felt more connected. She showed me all of her inspiration pictures that she had been saving from Houzz and Pinterest for years and stated how much she loved the white cabinets and wood accent style look, but did not want white cabinetry.

Also, the kitchen did not provide the best function and storage space when cooking. The island housed the cooktop and provided very little countertop space on either side of the appliance when cooking. The walk ways around the island were also extremely narrow, so when the refrigerator was opened, another person could not pass by when entering or leaving the kitchen. On top of that there was very poor lighting in the kitchen, so it made the space feel very dark and hard to see when the space was in use. Based on those few issues, the evidence was clear that it was definitely time for a remodel.

The transformation of this kitchen was outstanding! The very first thing we did was to remove the dividing wall between the kitchen and living area, which immediately changed both spaces entirely and made everything seem larger. By removing that wall we were able to design a large kitchen island that could accommodate the new Blue Star gas range, plenty of functional storage and still accommodate seating for 4.

Pairing Dura Supreme Cabinetry’s painted Moonstone gray finish with their warm Cherry Cider stain complimented the existing cedar ceiling that remained, but also provide the look that my client was seeking without utilizing painted white cabinetry.

My client was even trusting and daring enough to let me convince her to paint the back drop wall a super dark navy blue from Sherwin Williams called Inkwell that sets the stage for the kitchen cabinetry and cedar ceiling.

We completed the overall look by selecting Cambria Quartz Brentwood counter tops to tie everything together and complimented the look and style by selecting some sleek lighting for the pendants and dining area. Don’t those small touches of blue look great with the Inkwell accent wall?
